About Tommy

Tommy Dougherty is an energetic, versatile performer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, now based in New York City. He trained at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), where he developed a deep love for truthful storytelling, layered characters, and performances rooted in craft and joy.

Before moving to New York, Tommy worked as a lobbyist advocating for nurses throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Today, he is fully pursuing the dream that began at age six when he first stepped onstage as Winthrop Paroo in The Music Man—a formative moment that sparked a lifelong passion for performing.

Tommy performs regularly in musicals, plays, and cabarets throughout New York City, with appearances at venues including Birdland, Green Room 42, and the Laurie Beechman Theatre.

Reviews

"...with unvarnished performances from its international cast, creating a work where nothing feels accidental...It is through Smurov (Tommy Dougherty) — messenger, witness, and narrative thread — that we learn how Ilyusha’s isolation deepens. To his horrified classmates, he becomes “the boy who tried to kill his own dog.” Onstage, the rope emerges as a recurring symbol of guilt — knotted, tangled, pulled apart, even skipped like a child’s jump rope."

"Dougherty is quite terrifying as The Demon—it’s a performance that needs to be seen and heard to believe."

Tommy Dougherty’s Buddy was a sheer joy to watch. Dougherty clearly attempted to emulate the Buddy created by Will Ferrel in the 2003 Film, with its hyper childlike nature, while putting his own spin on the character. The energy and enthusiasm that Dougherty’s Buddy brings are enhanced by his remarkable vocal talents... Dougherty’s performance, both acting and singing, is at a level far above the average community theater

Dougherty's performance as Terry is phenomenal, with his gorgeous, classical, strong vocals particularly highlighted on "Private Conversation".
